In Your Next Beach Read, we want to introduce you to a new author every day in June in the hopes that you’ll find the next book you want to take with you to the beach, the pool, or the comforts of air conditioning.
Today’s author is Joanne Fisher, author of With All of Me II.
What’s your name and where are you from?
Joanne Fisher. I was born in Canada, lived in Italy for 18 years and then returned to Canada, divorced and re-married a Floridian. Now I live in central Florida with my hubby and Doxie.
How long have you been writing? How did you start?
I wrote some poems when I was a child. But I didn’t start a novel until 2006ish. Family and work and other stuff got in the way but I was finally able to publish my first book in 2017. Since then I’ve published another 5 and counting.
Who are some of your influences?
Italy has a huge influence on my writing. My family and friends too. But I get my ideas from sparking conversations about various things with people I meet every day; co-workers, fellow authors, people from church, my hubby’s friends, etc.
What is your book about?
My first book is titled With All of Me (Fall 2017) and I just published the sequel this past April, With All of Me II. Giuliana is a beautiful voluptuous Italian woman who falls for two men she meets online and on top of that, she deals with her husband, children and Italian traditions. This book is set in the Toronto area.
Where did you get the idea?
It arose from a mid-life crisis that I was going through and then it morphed into my main character, Giuliana, who went a completely different, fictional direction.
How long did it take you to finish it?
About 11 years. And then add another 2 years for the sequel.
Is this your first book, or have you written more than one?
After my first book, I wrote Her Spanish Doll (spicy romance), Good Things Always Happen in Springtime (historical fiction), Traveling Boomers – First Stop Italy (non-fiction travel guide) & Baker’s Dozen Anthology (a collection of 13 short stories).
We all like to write about people we know, even if we never name them. Who are some people who inspired characters or situations?
My husband’s grandparents inspired my historical fiction and my second book was inspired by a very young me and a potential lover that never happened in real life but did happen in my book.
What’s your favorite scene in the book?
The two weddings, both very similar, but very much different from each other.
What’s the best piece of writing advice you ever got?
Just write. A fellow author once told me to just write and write whenever you can. Worry about the editing later on, but just write.
What’s the worst?
To submit your manuscript to a traditional publisher. In the indie world, we all know well that the traditional publishers are slowly disappearing and the odds of landing a deal with one are lower than winning the lottery.
Where can we buy your book?
