In Your Next Beach Read, we want to introduce you to a new author every day in June in the hopes that you’ll find the next book you want to take with you to the beach, the pool, or the comforts of air conditioning.
Today’s author is T. Elizabeth Guthrie, author of Mated By Prophecy.
What’s your name and where are you from?
T. Elizabeth Guthrie and I’m from Florida.
How long have you been writing? How did you start?
I’ve been writing my whole life but only been published a little over a year. I started after my mom died because it was a great way to cope. I was 11.
Who are some of your influences?
Sherrilyn Kenyon, James Rollins and J.K. Rowling
What is your book about?
Paranormal Romance with Trolls, Ogres and Santa. It’s set on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Where did you get the idea?
I grew up walking the parkway and there are some really fairy tale places along it. It’s easy to see where fairies, trolls or ogres could be hiding.
How long did it take you to finish it?
Just a couple of months. It’s three short stories in one book.
Is this your first book, or have you written more than one?
I have four solo books out with this pen name. I also write children’s horror under a different name and there are four solo books there. It’s a series.
We all like to write about people we know, even if we never name them. Who are some people who inspired characters or situations?
I’m in love with Roman Reigns and Jason Momoa so they are a huge inspiration for my heroes. In the children’s books I always use kids I know. For instance, the first book has my two grandsons as the heroes.
What’s your favorite scene in the book?
When Santa catches Beth in his bedroom.
What’s the best piece of writing advice you ever got?
Stop overthinking every scene and just start writing.
What’s the worst?
You don’t need an editor.
