Today’s featured author is M Ennenbach, author of Notches.
What’s your name and where are you from?
M Ennenbach, an Illinois Yankee in Dallas Texas.
How long have you been writing? How did you start?
Almost two years seriously, but since I scribbled terrible poetry as a teen.
Who are some of your influences?
Bukowski, Hunter S Thompson, George Saunders, Poe, Lovecraft, Palahniuk.
What is your book about?
A collection of dark and sometimes darkly humorous tales of depression madness sorrow and love. And an epic poem about Persephone and Hades.
Where did you get the idea?
It’s a series of tales that have kind of haunted the back of my brain for years now.
How long did it take you to finish it?
On and off over a year.
Is this your first book, or have you written more than one?
This is my first published works. I have a novel finished and a collection of poetry as well that I’m hoping to get out soon.
We all like to write about people we know, even if we never name them. Who are some people who inspired characters or situations?
The bulk of this collection is a bit more personal and a lot of the characters are based off of myself the things I’ve written after are based on friends and family
What’s your favorite scene in the book?
A story named Coffee Trio is probably my favorite in the book either that or Persephone is that was what made me decide to pursue writing as an actual career instead of just a hobby.
What’s the best piece of writing advice you ever got?
Keep writing, even if you hit a wall keep pushing on.
What’s the worst?
To try to write like someone else.
