#YourNextBeachRead is a way to introduce you to a new author and their works in the hopes that you’ll find the next book you want to take with you to the beach, the pool, or the comforts of air conditioning.
Today’s featured author is Bambi Sommers, author of The Firebird duo.
What’s your name and where are you from?
My name is Bambi Sommers and I’m from Ohio.
How long have you been writing? How did you start?
I began writing in December of 2017 to enter a Simon & Schuster romance writing contest. I didn’t expect to win but I also didn’t expect to love writing so much!
Who are some of your influences?
That’s a tough question because there are so many fabulous writers and I’ve found even more since I’ve become one. If I would have to choose, it would be Lauren Layne, Darynda Jones and Marie Force.
What is your book about?
My Firebird duo is a rock and roll romance. Book 1 finds Firebird’s lead, Soldier, wanting to lay roots and open a recording studio. While looking for a place to call home, he unexpectedly encounters the woman with whom he compares all others. At last he hopes to explain why he left, but she throws him out. Now he’ll have to do the only sensible thing and buy the house directly across the street! Meanwhile, his best friend and guitarist, Percy, deals with an oh-so-unusual stalker-fan.
In Firebird 2, drummer, Ace, is secretly volunteering at a house for teens where he befriends 15-year-old Lucas. The young boy not only finds a family, but also himself as the band rallies to celebrate love, life…and death.
Where did you get the idea?
Ideas come from everywhere at anytime. Most of the time, I just have a seed of an idea and it grows as I write. Sometimes I think my characters write their own stories! Haha!
How long did it take you to finish it?
I wrote my first 2 books in a month each. The average now is about 3 months per book.
Is this your first book, or have you written more than one?
Firebird is my 4th and 5th book. I wrote the IMPS Trilogy first (Justice Prevails, Phantom Rising, and Remembering Riley) and after Firebird, my current series, Hart Investigations Romance (Diesel, Cody, Gabe and my in-process one, Sam).
We all like to write about people we know, even if we never name them. Who are some people who inspired characters or situations?
I know everyone likes to hear who the people really are and I hate to disappoint, but my characters are purely fictional.
What’s your favorite scene in the book?
Since I’m speaking of two, Firebird 1 would be when Percy and his female friend decide to make a bet on if he can really be just a friend, since his man-whore reputation precedes him.
Firebird 2 … I don’t want to give anything away, but it’s when Lucas writes a song and the band hears it for the first time.
What’s the best piece of writing advice you ever got?
I don’t know who originally said it but I repeat it often.. you could be the ripest, juiciest peach ever, and there will still be someone who doesn’t like peaches. It’s just another way to say you can’t please everybody and it works in all facets of life.
What’s the worst?
It wasn’t said to me but I read (on social media) where an editor told an indie writer to take out a loan for editing. I was and still am outraged by this! So much so that I started offering copy/line editing for indies at a discounted price. I believe in supporting each other.
Where can we buy your book?
All my books can be found on amazon as ebooks or paperbacks (Firebird 1 and Firebird 2). My author page is amazon.com/author/bambisommers. All can be read as stand-alones and are free with Kindle Unlimited.
